Imagining Other Green Spaces


Walking through the private and public green spaces in the neighbourhood surrounding Bureau Postjesweg, we were welcomed by residents. Alongside performative interventions by artist Lyuba Matyunina, titled I Am A Tool of Gentrification, we explored the transformations in Nieuw West. Our journey took us from the modernist patio of city monastery La Verna and the collective gardens of Van Eesteren to the future Spoorpark. From the wild yet carefully tended garden of Thomasvaer where nature is allowed to flourish, to the kitchen gardens in Pieternel, a former water treatment complex.

With Tini Knook, Gosewijn van Nieuwenhuizen, curator Iris Dik, New West architect Olaf Gipser and performances - “I am a Tool of Gentrification” - by artist Lyuba Matyunina and flags “Welcome Stranger” by Holger Nickisch.
